What Is the Future Perfect Continuous Tense?

The sometimes confusing future perfect continuous tense is better known as the future perfect progressive and is a verb tense showing an action that will continue until a certain point in the future. The correct structure is:

Will + have + been + verb’s present participle (-ing form)

  • Will have been living
  • Will have been reading
  • Will have been sleeping

Use this verb tense when projecting yourself forward in time and looking back at the progress or duration. Do not use it for stative or non-action verbs, such as know, believe, support, disagree, and lack.

Here are some easy examples showing how to use the future perfect continuous tense in sentences.

  • Next month, I will have been working at the company for three years.
  • Will I have been working at the company for three years next month?
